Back in the Saddle Finally
This past Friday I had the good fortune of tricking someone into going fishing again. The Redfish were very eager to eat even though the water temperature was only 48 degrees, kind of windy and with the big tides of the full moon still somewhat muddy. Normally we have pretty clear water until sometime in April when the water temp bets back into the…

Nine-year-old angler reels in record brook trout on North Saluda River

A 9-year-old angler from Tigerville recently caught a brook trout that tied a 31-year-old South Carolina state record for the species.

Riley Dunn, 9, caught a 2-pound, 6.08-ounce brook trout in the North Saluda River in northernRiley Dunn Greenville County in January 2010. Since existing records must be exceeded by a minimum of…

Offshore:

Lets start with some positive signs on the offshore front. Last week we were fortunate enough to have some great weather for about 3 days, and quite a few boats were able to slip out. While many of them went bottom fishing, numerous did venture out to drag a few baits. In addition to several nice wahoo being caught, there was nice blue marlin caught...yep, a February marlin! As mentioned…

Lake Hartwell, SC Striper report 2-25

The lake is full and the water tempertures are on there way up. We have the guide boats loaded and ready to go. Currently we are catching Striper trolling Capt. Mack Umbrella Rigs and using jigging spoons over bait fish.

The live bait bite is starting to get better. As the lake tempertures rise the fishing will get great with live bait with limits being caught…

Lake Hartwell/Lake Jocassee Fishing report

What a mixed up winter it has been. The good thing is that the lakes are full! The last few months have been a little difficult to even get on the lakes due to Rain/Snow and Wind! Most all the lakes right now are reading in the 48 degree mark during the day and 45 at night. Lake jocassee trout are biting. Most fish are from the surface down to…

Avid Angler Report,Charleston SC, 2-23

For the most part, fishing has been a blast throughout Jan-Feb with some great catches of Redfish. Some days the fish have been pretty sluggish and lethargic, and other days the wind has made sight fishing difficult. One day we actually had some sort of small microburst come though the marsh and spook all the reds, it almost looked like a big school of baitfish moving over the water.

While our local fishery saw something it has not seen since '89 this past weekend (several inches of snow), some of the fish continue to provide some quality action for those willing to brave the cold and get out there. Redfish continue to be schooled up in good numbers, especially along shallow mud flats at low tide. Baits of choice to sight cast to schooling reds have been the 'standard'…

I had some nice folks from Wisconsin yesterday who had the opinion that our cold weather was warm and temper ant when I explained our temperatures have been in the 20's every night for more than a week and it might be tough to get the Redfish to eat, their comment, "20 above or below". We fished the last of the outgoing and first of the incoming tide. Even though…

Our water temps have risen several degrees since the cold, and should continue to climb throughout the next week with the high…
